Long time no see my old friend. At first we confuse where to meet. Then I asked her to get mad for dimsum at MAD that located at Lotte Sopping Avenue Jakarta. Just because, suddenly I craving for dimsum. Been curious with this place. And never get a chance to visit here. So here we are, ready to explore their dimsum menu.
Entering the MAD area that located across the XXI Theater, you will feel at the art gallery. The sitting area is a big hall like food court with wooden furniture. With the colorful art-deco scheme really spoiled eyes, and the one that capturing my eyes 1st is the table that wrote MAD above it. You will feel eating in an outside area with many bench eclectic chairs and of course with a vibrant colors.
MAD was born in the hands of two Singaporean, Dick Lee and Andrew Chow under Singapore F&B Group who also brought Ming Dine and Chill at Epicentrum Walk, Jakarta. MAD served many kind of Chinese and Western food. This time, me and my friend want to dig in their various dimsum. And iin the middle of the dining area, there's an open kitchen for dimsum. Let's dig in.
MAD FOR DIMSUM
CRISPY SQUID INK SESAME BALL (3pcs) - IDR 20.800
Filled with black bean that have really soft texture. But too bad, there's only plenty of filling in it. Luckily, they have perfect crispy squid ink. It's pretty decent.
I die with this bun. It so moist, soft and generous in filling. The chicken really tender and well marinated with the right amount of barbequed sauce.
CRISPY YAM DUMPLING WITH MINCED CHICKEN FILLING (3pcs) - IDR 22.800
I thought this was some kind like meatballs. But it more like bitter ballen. It has really smooth texture in it. I like when it still hot. Because the creaminess from the filling more tasty and not overwhelmed.
Served warm with sweet soy sauce. I like the prawn filling. It taste good and not fishy.
STEAM BBQ CHICKEN ROLL - IDR 24.800
Not to like about this one. I guess it come from the leaves (forget what it was) but it give a strange taste in my palate.
SIGNATURE RICE ROLL - IDR 28.800
There's a crunchy texture on the filling. I forget the exact what it is. But I think its a rice vermicelli that been fried. It mixed with the minced chicken in it. This steamed roll really gave a different texture in my palate. Soft, crunchy, sweet and savory. My favorite among two above.
STEAMED BEANCURD SKIN ROLL WITH SHRIMP - IDR 22.800
Very light dimsum, Beancurd skin stuffed with minced shrimp. Taste decent. It served warm. Like it.
BRAISED CHICKEN FEET with BLACK BEAN SAUCE - IDR 20.800
Like the black been sauce. A combination between sweet and savory. Marinated well into the chicken feet that really tender.
STEAMED TRUFFLE DUMPLINGS - IDR (3pcs) - IDR 20.800
Filled with truffle mushroom and vegetables. Good for you who don't eat meat. This is quiet good, even though I think that the truffle not to fragrant like truffle that I used to eat. The skin also really chewy and goey.
STEAMED CHICKEN WITH TAOSI - IDR 20.800
The chicken really tender and marinated well. It ripped off easily from the bone. The sauce taste a bit spicy.
GLUTINOUS RICE with CHICKEN WRAPPED with LOTUS LEAF (2pcs) - IDR 22.800
Like this dimsum so much. The lotus leaf make the rice more fragrant and the chicken cooked with sweet soy sauce that make the taste sweet and savory. The texture is great. Not too mushy or soggy.
At the end, we really overwhelmed with the dimsum here. So many choices of dimsum make us want to grab all. We barely can't move from the chairs. We're so freakin' full. My suggestion, if you want to get mad with dimsum at MAD, do not eat anything before and only drink mineral water or something sour during eating. I surely will comeback for some of their dimsum and want to taste MAD other menus also some other times.
